Certificate of Non- Impediment
The following are the procedures to be followed in applying for a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage:
1. Write a Letter of Request addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, outlining the following:
a. Name;
b. Date and place of birth;
c. Usual place of residence in Jamaica;
d. Name, address and nationality of the person you intend to marry;
e. Names and addresses of two references in Jamaica. Both references should complete an AFFIDAVIT (click here to download form in pdf format *) in the presence of a Notary Public or Consular Officer.
The letter should be submitted along with the following:
a. Original birth certificate of the applicant;
b. Jamaican passport or certified copy of the data page;
c. An Affidavit (click here to download form in pdf format *);
d. Two (2) passport-sized photographs – both should be certified by a Notary Public, Commissioner of Oaths or a Jamaican Consular Officer;
e. A Decree Absolute if you are divorced or a Death Certificate if you are widowed.
The cost for processing the application is J$7500.00.
